Fire Burns

July 1, 1993

Tomorrow, comes the rain
Tonight, the silence rings
No love to hold again
The birds cease to sing
All the silence through the room
Darkness couldn’t come too soon

Why must we live this way?
Convincing each other every day
There is no other life than this
Where did we lose the loving kiss?

I hear and see it every night
The drilling pain of their silent fight
No right to tell them it’s wrong
It’s not too hard to get along
I see the smiles fade each minute
I look in the mirror and thank myself
For having the opportunity to put my worries on the shelf
For another time when I am bored
I’ll remember the unhappy times I have stored
And smile in triumph over my concerns
Always remembering, fire burns
With every life we encounter, we learn
I wish they knew, the people I love
That they are the water to control the unhappy flames.
