Number 1

June 15, 1993

The richest of things to cherish
Are the simplest of all lives
Where the only necessary treasures
Are the smallest of all pleasures
Enjoying the breeze on a sunny day
Smiling down at a happy child
Receiving love from a dependent kitten

The roads wind around the pines
High in the mountains of imagination
A picture perfect place to be
No need to escape from my own company

Failures from before used to bring me down
Lost loves that were never meant to be
Friendships proven untrue through circumstance
Have all etched their lines on my soul
But I have always been there for myself

I much rather a long drive alone
On an evening just listening to music
Enjoying my priorities, not my necessities
No one else is necessary, I am my number one
I cannot live for anyone else.
