July 2014
When I peeled off the mask
I had no face, no features
I hold in my hand only the glue left behind
Layers of pain to peel away
A seed that once bloomed
Long ago carried away in the wind
I see your words on the screen
Your denial of our connection
Yet your words were there, before our truth was revealed
Convincing your heart, it was gone long before
I hear your pain, feel your sadness
You are the first layer and the last to leave
My mask gone, my truth revealed
In hiding, there is no peace
In truth, there is no relief
Words left unspoken bring anguish
Words spoken brings silence
A love rendered is not wrong
A love forsaken, is not forgotten
No more thoughts to share
An empty void, a space too large
I will ever hold you in my memory
It’s the only place you will ever be again.
