When everything feels like it’s broken,
I want you to know who you are.
When life seems like it’s falling apart,
I want you to know the road is not far.
I know you want to hide from prying eyes,
Hide in the shadows and slip away.
Allowing the darkness to overcome,
Keeping your heart and healing at bay.
I stand before you and call you out,
Beckoning you to a life you know is yours.
Staking claims to the peace you deserve,
Closing one and opening the next door.
Your strength evades you at times,
Your love not fully in your grasp.
The man hiding in the shadows steps forth,
As the terror grips tighter to your clasp.
Shaking tremors threaten to spill over,
One step forward, soaking up the sliver of sun.
The warmth embraces, reverberates from within,
Another step, remembering where you’ve come from.
Reaching for the peace at your fingertips, within your grasp,
Hands are out of your pockets, a deep breath in.
Silence surrounds you, the beat of your heart strong,
Fighting the urge to take two steps back in again.
Standing still, eyes adjusting to the light,
Absorbing the wonder of where you are.
Fighting yourself, your demons rise up,
Heart floating, the aches and lines mar.
Leaving behind all you know, dreams gone by,
Trembling, you understand the shaking is from inside.
The foundation is not torn, still intact,
You are the shadow in which you hide.
Another step, a long exhale, leaves you empty,
The sun bears down on your face, filling you.
The smell of fresh rain fills your senses,
Hope, heart and soul, shadows fade through.
Fully immersed, fully out of the darkness,
The peace fills you where the demons once lay,
Shaking your head, you thought it was a nightmare,
Before realizing you are the foundation, you are here to stay.
